Landscape & ecosystem

Our location in central Missouri, within the glaciated Ozark fringe, is a unique area that combines natural features of both northern and southern Missouri. The farm sits in a narrow, Ozark-style valley with steep rocky slopes overlooking a narrow band of good soil along the bottomland of a small stream. Mixed woods, fields, pastures, and small ponds provide a variety of habitat for birds and other natural life. Our valley creates its own microclimate, trapping cooler area such that under certain conditions we can receive frosts a month later and earlier than more open landscapes in our immediate areas. Balancing this, we are often sheltered by our ridgelines from stronger storms and winds, and from some effects of the hottest summer days.
